Development of NLP

The NLP was developed by John Grinder and Richard Bandler in the USA in the 1970s. Grinder was an assistant professor at the University of California Linguistics Department, San Diego. He had an interest in syntax and language structure. Bandler, then an undergraduate student, collaborated with him on a project investigating Gestalt 's underlying linguistic techniques. This method of psychotherapy focuses on procedures, what is felt, and what is spoken of.

They researched the methods of effective psychotherapists to recognize any commonalities within therapeutic partnerships based on their communication techniques. They tried to discover the variety of techniques employed by excellent therapists that allowed remarkable results. Their idea was that, if these elements could be established, they could be taught to others to model outstanding practitioners, in short, modeling excellence.

The goals of Grinder and Bandler were:
